The berg, Hallein and the Salzburg Festung(festival)

Sadly all these photos aren't viewable as I bought a new card and the iPad can't read it. So 2 days worth of photos will have to go up when I return. It's sad as we had a lovely day in the mountains with Klara, finished off by a visit to Hallein where Salzburg's famous salt mines are located, for a huge ice cream. Hallein is very interesting as it has a large Turkish community from mining, and also Celtic roots found in recent archeological digs.
The following day we went into Salzburg and onto the Festung- which is the oldest and only fortress in europe, that has never been taken by force. It survived many attempts and was only surrendered to napoleons without challenge.

My familys homes in Salzburg

Here are some pics of my families traditional homes in Salburg , they have lived here since the war, and it is in an old part of Salburg , called Max glan, the first is my Oma's house, that my aunty Hannelore and her son Norbert live in since Oma's passing, and next door is my aunty Ricki and uncle Heini's house. The Untersberg - salzburg's mountain had snow the night we arrived- the first for the year!

Jeff goes to the red bull hanger- he's in heaven!!!

Red Bull has a huge hanger about 1 km from Heini unf Rickis house so we went and looked at all the planes and cars . While Jeff played PS3 I went to the bathroom and had to photograph it , as it was so beautiful!!!

A lovely private castle on a lake nearbywith loads of wild Gerard and swans.

Hellbrun part 2

Hellbrun has loads of grottos and many statues, although Lauren thought them rather ugly as they were of dwarfs and rubenesce figures - but it is all based on medieval mythology. The whole property is run on natural spring water and there is a theater with over 1000 figures all moving by water driven mechanics. Amazing for the period!also there is a statue of the princes love and roses stay fresh for up to 6 months as the water sprays over them constantly- a tribute to his love!

Day 2 with Nicer weather !

Today was nicer so we went shopping in the morning and then in the afternoon we went to Hellbrun -a castle famous for its water play park. It is a summer palace and the prince was a jokester , so throughout the gardens are areas where water sprays up at you especially at his famous dinner table as no one could get up until he did and water came up from inside the seats, except where the prince sat. The Sound of Music was filmed here as well. We had a tour and walk through some of the 40 acres of gardens. Then my aunty hannelore took us to see schloss Klessheim on a lake nearby.
